Champagne/sparkling wine would be sticky; the first thing you'd need to do with your brand-new ring is get it thoroughly cleaned! How would you get it out? Do you drink the wine and have it in your mouth? Do you drink the wine with your teeth closed so you can tip it out? Do you dump the wine over your hand and catch the ring? None of these seems to be a classy/gracious way to do it... I don’t know, but it never seemed like a good idea to me…
