Shat Splatterson asked:

For example, would you prefer a large solitary center diamond, or a smaller, shinier center diamond next to smaller diamonds on the setting.

I personally don’t care about the size, but the more sparkle the better!

i would prefer an engagement ring that is not a diamond! i would prefer something original and different :)

I prefer a smaller one with the diamonds on the setting.

my husband got me this BIG diamond ring for our engagement needless to say we had it returned because I wanted something smaller. i guess thats just me im not a flashy person.

I wouldn’t prefer a diamond at all!

A blood diamond (also called a conflict diamond, dirty diamond or a war diamond) is a diamond mined in a war zone and sold, usually clandestinely, in order to finance an insurgency, invading army’s war efforts, or supporting a warlord’s activity.

So, unless you’re buying the diamond from Canadian mines, is this really something you want to support? Boo!!

Large solitary. But then again, it’s not the size of the ring, it’s the size of the heart of the man who gives it. I prefer sweet simple things so I just have a gold band with a single diamond, but it’s not big at all.

I prefer the better quality diamond — even if it’s smaller!

I’d prefer the latter, shinier diamond next to others on the setting.

I’d want a ring that looks good on MY FINGER so I’d want to either help pick it out, or go shopping with you a few times to trry things on and let you know what style i prefer. Then you can surprise me with one of the rings I liked.

Married myself, but my solitare is a 1.2 carat diamond, and my wrap has two small baguettes, and two small round stones, it was what my fiancee now husband at the time chose, he said that he could afford it and that was what he wanted me to have, and if I had to choose for myself I would have wanted a nice stone, however if he could not have afford it I would have been happy with a small stone as well. But I prefer the large stone.

eli_star wrote on June 25th, 2010 10:27 pm :

Definitely the shiny one. A small high quality diamond looks ten times better than a mediocre big one. A coworker had a 1 carat cloudy solitaire and it just looked like costume jewelry.

size matters

I agree with taryn s. Diamonds are over done and over rated. But if your sweety is stuck on having a diamond, sparkle is an attention getter.

Honestly, I’d rather have a smaller solitare. I don’t really like the thought of carrying around a full carat. Even that is too much for me!

I prefer a smaller better quality stone with lost of shine. :)

Personally, I’d like just a plain band….I think a lot of women equate how big their diamond is to how much their fiance loves them.

If you’re trying to find out what your gf likes, then why don’t you ask her mom to find out for you?

Good luck :)

I go for sparkle every time. What good is a huge diamond if has no sparkle in it?

As far as the setting- that’s personal preference- but my ring has 3 smaller diamonds to represent the past, present and the future.

Have fun shopping!

Sparkle. The better the clarity (sparkle) the better the quality of the stone i wouldn’t want a big stone with no character no sparkle or little sparkle and size doesn’t really matter.

Congratulations if your getting engaged.

Mine is a solitary and it isn’t a big diamond at all. But I love it. It is simple and sweet and came from the guy i love so to me none of it matters just the guy that put it there.

I absolutly love my engagement ring it has a princess cut diamond in the middle and 4 smaller diamonds on each side, and its very sparkly! LOVE IT!

mysteryperson wrote on July 15th, 2010 4:50 am :

My husband let me pick out mine. I went for cute. It’s a 1/3 ct. heart shaped diamond. For me it’s the most beautiful thing in the world and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

bluegirl6 wrote on July 17th, 2010 11:54 pm :

Lol….love your name!!!
Hey it’s all about the sparkle and how pretty it is.
Bigger does not mean better when it comes to
an engagement ring.

hh wrote on July 18th, 2010 7:37 pm :

i told my husband to be frugal and he didn’t listen. i LOVE my ring. it’s a 1 1/4 carat princess cut with two sapphires on the side and four smaller diamonds on each side. of course, i would’ve loved something much less flashy. the clarity doesn’t have to be perfect, most of the time in diamonds, the flaws are so tiny no one would notice them. to answer your question, i would probably say bigger and less sparkly (but not cloudy, like someone else warned against) (how could a diamond not be sparkly anyway?). i don’t care for solitaires, though.

Vero wrote on July 21st, 2010 9:51 pm :

it depends on the quality, i’d rather have a ring that is smaller but a better quality then one that is large with worse quality. plus, i have small hands so a smaller ring would look nicer on me anyway. i think onw with sapphires n each side would be nice since it happens to be my bf’s birthstone. i’ve seen a few and they are really nice.

Lydia wrote on July 24th, 2010 7:13 pm :

Go for quality over quantity. A smaller lovelier stone is MUCH nicer than a large dull one.
Personally, I prefer the style with a centre stone with shoulder stones. My husband chose that, and I love it! Simple and classic!

No diamonds would be better!!
