Woop asked:

Or is that asking for too much for that kind of money?

Solitaire or total carat weight (meaning more than one diamond adding up to two carats)?

If you’re looking for a solitaire, it really depends on what your definition of nice is. You can probably get something that will be very pretty and very sparkly, yes, but you’re not going to get a D or E color VVS inclusions ring for that price.

No way.

A nice 2 carat ring-I am talking F color or better and VS2 clarity or better will run you in $20,000-$30,000 range.

My ring is 1.03 carats, E color, round brilliant cut, VS2 clarity, in platinum with pave cut diamonds on the side. It cost between 8 and 9K.

you will have to choose between size and quality. either get a better smaller stone or larger less perfect stone. congrats anyways. that would be a beautiful ring either way.

If you go slightly under 2 carats, it’s possible. The stone’s quality might not be the best, but who cares as long as you love it. Try consignment and antique stores. Often you can find something amazing for a great price.

Does it matter? It will look gaudy and fake anyway. Perhaps you should be thinking of housing and savings, not your finger.

Look into moissanite. It looks very much like real diamonds but much more affordable. You could easily get one for $4000 that’s about 2K on white gold or platinum.

Check out this for a great buy on higher carat rings:

Unless you get a good price second hand or something I don’t see how. I looked on a couple competative websites and diamonds around 2 carats on pretty low cut settings with J color and possible visible inclusions were running 10,000. That was just for the lose diamond, not including the couple hundred you’ll be spending on a setting. 2 carats is pretty big so if the color and cut were bad it would look pretty bad. Think about getting something a bit smaller. You might be able to find something around that price (again, not a great gem) at a carat and a half.

if you mean a 2 carat solitaire..probably not, however if you mean 2 carats in total weight with the band its possible. mine is 2 carats, with the center stone being 1 carat and the rest equaling a total weight of 1 carat and it was apraised (for insurance reasons) at $8000, so thats a possibility! If you are looking for a solitaire really think hard about this, its extremely hard to get a ring to securely hold a 2 carat diamond, my mom’s was 2 carats and the center diamond fell out on vacation (luckily it was insured)! Just something to think about!

You might find a solitaire but you will be giving up some on quality. I found this 2.01 ct heart shaped for $6350, you would still have to set it in a ring (solitaire setting for $250ish), the clarity is nice, not fantastic, but nice and you probably won’t see any flaws in it, but it is going to be a little on the yellow side. If you like yellow gold you might not even notice it.
This is a really nice pear , a little less than 2 carats but will look much bigger than a 2ct round or princess because of its shape, $7213:
2ct radiant, again j in color so will be slightly yellow $7350:
$6350, good color not as great clarity radiant:
$6600 pear, not great clarity:
You will have much better luck getting a ring with a smaller center stone and side stones that equals 2.0 carats or bigger. For example:
